When Mitch and Ellie Avery show up in Alabama for a celebration and reunion, they are stunned to discover that Grandpa Avery has died suddenly.
While the death was seemingly from natural causes, some strange happenings convince Ellie, who loves to dabble in mysteries, that something is wrong.
A series of break-ins, a missing body and casket, some signs of digging in the cemetery, and still another death all add up to more than coincidence.
Then there are the sudden appearances of individuals who are not who they seem.
Mimosas, Mischief, and Murder (Ellie Avery Mysteries) takes the reader down some intriguing pathways, and it is a book filled with realistic characters who portray family moments and rivalries that might remind some of us of our own families. And the bottom line in this mystery is “follow the money.” Greed seems to be the root of all evil in this charming tale.
While I enjoyed this read, I thought that everything came together rather quickly and unexpectedly toward the end of the book, and while I was pleased that I hadn’t figured everything out ahead of time, I was a bit disappointed at the tidy wrap-up. 3.5 stars.
